Tell Congress How MAD You Are: Text Of MAD Letter To Congress Mar 25, 2005 – StopTheDraft.com Staff Writer
Mothers Against The Draft has posted an online petition to be sent to
Congress on its website to help "MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!" and to "TELL
CONGRESS, NO DRAFT!"
We liked it so much, we've copied it below so you may copy it, customize it,
and then mail it - by snail-mail or by e-mail - to your Congressman/woman and
Senator:
Subject: Opposition to the Forced Conscription of American Citizens
To: Your representative to Congress or the U.S. Senate
Proposed Text:
Dear Congressman/Senator:
I strongly object to the re-institution of a military draft or any other form
of mandatory national service, including the "back-door draft" which extends
the military duty of those who have volunteered to serve our country beyond
the termination date of their enlistment contract.
Our nation's Constitution enumerates the powers "We the People" gave to
Congress. And in spite of the claims of previous Congresses and Courts,
nowhere have you been given legitimate authority to "draft" the citizens you
have been elected to serve.
For Congress to even consider depriving Americans of their most fundamental
liberties by forcing them into service under the banner of "defending
freedom" and "eliminating tyranny" is itself tyranny.
Our military is seriously overstretched. I urge you to immediately
re-evaluate our commitments and bring forward solutions that respect the
God-given rights of the American people and promote peace with the nations of
the world.
In addition, I call upon you to make clear your position on the draft and
urge you to stand with us by solemnly pledging to do all within your power to
oppose any legislation or regulation that imposes a draft.
Remember - we do still live in a democracy and your representatives can only
return to Washington if you re-elect them. So let them know how you feel
about the draft - if enough of us do, we'll be able to stop the draft before
it starts!
